House of Waterford Crystal

Client: Waterford City Council
Project Status: Completed June 2010
Location: Waterford, Ireland

This project involved the design and construction of a state-of-the-art Glass Manufacturing Facility and tourist trail in a part-listed building in the centre of Waterford City. This factory has been designed to produce approximately 40,000 pieces per annum.

This project had a number of difficult and challenging design obstacles.

The maximum noise level permitted at night time was 40dbA. Located in the centre of the city and close to existing residential areas the factory had many challenges with regards to sound and noise. A complete model of the building was produced and verified after the construction was complete.

The Glass Furnace operates as a 2 Phase and at 1400 oC. A significant study was required on electrical harmonics for the Furnace. It was a challenge to design and install a low-running cost system to maintain operator comfort while in close proximity to the Furnace.

You can take a tour of this stunning factory.
